Notes from behind the canvas at David Limrite’s Workshop

This past October we welcomed David Limrite to the studio for figurative painting workshop. In this expressive workshop, he demonstrated various mediums and the wild vibes were a blast. Limrite uses emotional content to give his figures power and intensity, underscoring their emotion through passionate handling of materials which animates the figures and suggests energy between the forms.

Limrite’s calm charisma and wealth of knowledge encouraged students to break from realism to bold strokes and innovative movement while listening to Ethiopian jazz. The artist students felt free and loose to channel different representations of the stellar nude models who joined in with the overall camaraderie and fun of another excellent workshop.

David Limrite’s current work continues an investigation of the struggle for understanding and ultimate acceptance of complex emotional issues. Using primarily graphite, charcoal, acrylic and collage, his work combines virtuoso drawing with cathartic expressionism.
