Exploring Nature’s Deep Imagery..in Black, White and Warm Metallics

Judith Krugers “Abstract Alchemy” 5- day workshop September 15-19th , 2025

Artist, alchemist, and researcher Judith Kruger is coming to Willow Pond for a metamorphic workshop in September. This workshop is well suited for artists of all skill levels ready to unpack “abstract alchemy” with the ultimate creativity booster, constraint. Whether you are an abstractionist or realist, nature serves as our ultimate reference for beauty. Kruger encourages a fresh reinterpretation of its rich imagery, seeking out its true essence through nature's very materials—within a limited palette. Using naturally sourced pigments of black, white, and warm metallics, Kruger guides us with decades of observation and expertise as we explore meaningful, process-driven, ecological work that nurtures the heart and spirit.

Kruger will showcase her renowned non-toxic studio methods, using various paints, inks, and homemade gesso crafted from natural materials like pine soot, shells, and earth minerals. Attendees will also explore metallic leafing and alchemic oxidation techniques to add warmth and depth to their work.

Her expansive body of work highlights the connection between humans and their surroundings. This healing workshop addresses shared vulnerabilities while drawing from her experiences supporting fellow artists through teaching, mentoring, and grant writing.

Judith Kruger is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores human-environment connectivity and their shared vulnerabilities. She is recognized internationally for her advocacy and employment of historic painting processes involving natural pigments. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kruger currently lives and works in New Haven, CT. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Savannah College of Art and Design.
